Getting to the King Inside You
Feeling Like a King is about more than achieving material gain. Most importantly, it is about how you feel while you pursue your life goals. As a concept, it’s available to anyone. From peasant to royalty. All it requires is just a little shift in your focus and recognition of your own power to write your destiny.
Once you realise you can be in control of your life, then you can say that you are Feeling Like a King. The Thirteen Meditations are a way to help guide you to connecting with the king inside you. It’s up to you how much time you spend on each but the key is to try and make it regular so that it becomes a habit.
It wouldn’t take much to start with. You can take just one minute out of your day to reflect on a meditation and see how you can apply it to get to the King inside you. For instance, how can you apply discipline to get to the best version of yourself?
Once it becomes habitual, you will find it easier and easier to spend more time on each quality/meditation and your ability to master it. The idea behind using the quotes for each meditation are that it is generally easier to connect to quotes and find inspiration in them. Using the quotes should help you unlock your own ability to become your best.
We’ve even created a clock-face version of the meditations to help remind you to take some time to focus on becoming the best version of yourself. This can help you to focus on a different meditation throughout whatever time span you use. Whether it be a day, a week, a month, etc.
What time is it? It’s patience o’clock. Time to think about how to use patience to get to a better version of yourself. You can follow this question template for each meditation.
Here is an overview of the 13 meditations
AMBITION can be defined as a strong or earnest desire to do or achieve something. The ability to welcome failure and keep going. It’s important though that your happiness is not dependent on attaining that achievement but on the process itself. When you think of ambition as a process of personal growth and progress, then you are able to accept any failures as part of that journey, not the end.
A definition of COURAGE that we like is the ability to control fear and to be willing to deal with something that is dangerous, difficult, or unpleasant. What’s important to note here is that courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness to act in spite of the fear. That is not to say that you should be reckless. There is a balance to be found as an excess of bravery can be just as destructive as a lack of it.
DISCIPLINE is an interesting one. Most definitions seemed to be centred around punishment for non-compliance. That sort of speaks to the state of mind that is required if you are going to apply this to your own life. Discipline is the ability to make yourself do something, even if it is difficult, so that you can achieve a goal. It’s that ability to wake up at 5am everyday simply because you said you would.
EXCELLENCE is not about being the best, but more about being your best. It’s defined as the quality of being outstanding or extremely good. It’s that level of doing something where not even your worst enemy can argue with integrity against how good you are at what you do. Excellence is also self-fuelling. Once you start performing with excellence in one aspect of your life, you will find that this energy transfers to other areas of your life.
HONOUR is defined as the quality of knowing and doing what is morally right. Also as regarding with great respect. How would this apply to your journey to a greater you? Well you owe it to the King inside you to get to that point. That ‘you’ exists. First as an idea, as a vision, now it’s up to you to make it a reality.
HUMILITY is defined as the feeling or attitude that you have no special importance that makes you better than others. Also seen as a lack of pride. Some might see this as negative in some way but that is not the case. Instead, you should see humility as an understanding that everyone is equally valuable. You are worth no more or less than anyone else. You will see positive benefits in applying this perspective to your life
LOYALTY we like to see as an unwavering commitment to an idea, goal or principles. The ability to keep going even when things get rough. Once you have loyalty to the idea of the best version of yourself, there is nothing that will stop you achieving that. Loyalty becomes even more powerful of a motivator when your vision is bigger than just you. If you have a vision for how to change this world for the better, loyalty to that vision can be very powerful for you.
PATIENCE is an interesting one. Some may interpret patience as being still and doing nothing while waiting for something to happen. That’s not quite right. Yes it does require you to have the ability to wait for results but it also requires you to be active in preparing to receive the results. It’s not about inactivity but about understanding that some things just take time to manifest
RESPECT is actually two-fold in that it involves respect for self and respect for others. It involves having due regard for the feelings, wishes, or rights of others and of course for yourself. It has many different aspects but at the heart of respect is to show kindness and care. To ourselves, to others and to our environment. It’s having that level of consideration that will compel us to do nothing to cause harm or offence to others. Even though sometimes, this choice is not within our control, it is important that your intentions come from a place of respect
SACRIFICE is the act of giving up something of value for the sake of other considerations. It might seem like something difficult to do but you probably do this more often than you are aware of. On the journey to finding the King inside you, you will most certainly have to move away from what is comfortable and what you’re used to, in order to get positive results. It will be challenging but in most cases, it’s worth it.
VIRTUE is defined as behaviour showing high moral standards. Now we don’t need to define moral behaviour for you or describe what it is to be a good person. This is something that you should know from your own experience. You know what treatment from people makes you feel good about yourself and what treatment makes you feel bad. Deep down, you know what to do all the time. You might not have the strength or motivation to do it, but you know what to do. Virtue is the balance between two extremes. The extreme of excess and the extreme of deficiency. Find your sweet spot….find your virtue.
VISION can be described as the ability to imagine how something could develop in the future and to plan for this. It is important to have clarity and detail in your vision so you are more likely to connect to your power to realise the vision. Consider vision to be a level up from goal setting. You should have a vision for you which aligns with your vision for your family, which aligns with your vision for your community, which aligns with your vision for the world. Goals you can set along the way to achieving your vision.
WISDOM is difficult to define as there are so many facets to it. It is sometimes simply designed as the ability to make good judgments based on what you have learned from your experience, or the knowledge and understanding that gives you this ability. It also encompasses the ability to be humble to how much you don’t know and being open to always learning and growing. Wisdom is not devoid of hope but does involve understanding how challenging things can be. Being conscious of the complexities involved in any project is a privilege of the wise.
Are you ready to start your journey to the best version inside you? That journey to Feeling Like a King for benefit of you, your family, your community and the world?. Let’s get it.
